Freeman W. Butts — pop-up

A pop-up exhibition of legendary Livingston artist Freeman W. Butts.

Echo Arts & Big Sky Art Ops
Bozeman, 2026

Don’t miss this upcoming pop-up exhibition of Freeman Butts paintings and works on paper, on view in our space from October 27–31st. Hosting alongside our friends, Big Sky Art Ops, we have been percolating on a show for some time – due to us enjoying them overmuch, well out in airport land, just for ourselves. His story is a lovely one and the ambient environment of model-friends and artists that he painted, in their repose, feels so very Montana in its absence of formality. So, come on over and enjoy the nudes and have a drink with us. We would love to tell you more about the Livingston legend if you have not yet been acquainted.

Butts (b. 1928, Los Angeles, CA – d. 1998, Livingston, MT) was a painter influenced by Matisse and Richard Diebenkorn, who arrived in MT in the seventies, inspired by the landscape, culture and character of the west. We have a work of his installed at the One & Only Moonlight Basin in the Spa Lodge.

A reception will be held on Wednesday the 28th from 5:30–8p, with additional gallery hours that last week of October.
